Doing YOUR work!

I haven't told you-- I run a little blog called etherealwear. It's a humorous, craft blog about life and featuring sellers on a craft site called etsy.

Today, a friend of mine who has a shop called Dollface Design, discovered that someone has been selling her collages on notebooks on ebay, in the UK. Understandably she's frustrated. But wouldn't you know-- I think I secretly channeled some goodness to her, in my long-winded comment. I posted it below, mainly because it's something I need to hear and follow, myself.

Wow. That's HORRIBLE.

On the other hand, here's another, albeit painful affirmation of just HOW GREAT your work truly is, and that YOU should be capitalizing on the full potential energy of your wonderful creations! Take that high road all the way to the bank.

The very fact that the seller is selling the notebooks for 3quid is evidence of a belief in lack and limitation-- that's really the sad thing here.

Step up your game. More, bigger, better faster. Go Dollface Design, GO! Temporary tattoos for everyone!

Do not be discouraged, and being angry might not produce the effect you want, in the end. Don't go stitchin' a blanket out of the panels of sympathy coming your way. Get your thumb out-- in other words, nose to the grindstone, and MAKE YOUR ART!!! Turbo-charged, ROCKET fuel, baby! Turn this ship around!

This is your wake-up call to magnetize yourself to attract all the success the Universe is waiting to give you! You're doing it already-- don't let this weirdness stop you.

Make that new merch we talked about at Whole Foods that day, if you haven't already, because, as you can see, if an idea is voiced, but not actualized by the thinker, it goes back into pool of thought, and then it's anyone's game! Esoteric, perhaps, but TRUE. Believe me, it's happened to me a dozen times because I didn't follow through on MY OWN f-ing plans. . .

Make everything you can-- yes, even the Narragansett beercan cozies (no, not really, but let your imagination run wild, girl!) DO IT. Go as far as you can. And then you'll be licensing your work, partying in Budapest, and we can enter the Gumball 3000 race in Europe! Yeah, not ready to let that idea go, am I? We're still going to make that happen by 2012

So when moments like this come up, and they will, you can sigh at these half-hearted attempts at art and feel compassion for that person who is not ready to develop their own art. BUT YOU ARE, and you will continue to do so . . . to the event horizon, we go!

Make it happen, missy.

Wow, I'm starting to think that really might be true about the idea pool.

In the last few years I have seen several EXTREMELY obscure ideas that I've had being taken up and used by my favorite singer. I can only think that we are dipping from the same waters, she's just got more facilities to make it happen.

I went from feeling resentment about it to being happy that the idea is getting done, and getting done WELL, and will be seen by thousands of people.

There is only TRULY one mind. We're not separate, there's no copyright for thoughts. Do what you dream of doing. Begin it. You must.

I can't tell you how many thoughts have come to me-- great ideas that I didn't implement, and then shortly thereafter, I saw the idea manifested by someone else.

This is hard to for me to say. . . it's easy to think that someone has more than you, in terms of making a dream happen. Not so. Not so. Goethe says:

Then indecision brings its own delays; And days are lost lamenting over lost days. Are you in earnest? Seize this very minute; What you can do, or dream you can do, begin it; Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.

These words break my heart-- they are like strikes with a whip across my back-- I KNOW this, I believe these words, and yet I wait. I think, "How can I do that?"
"Who AM I think I can do that?"

Or, I TALK my idea to an Iago disguised as a friend, a "devil's advocate." OR I don’t think I can do it because I don’t have the money to make it happen. That’s all ego saying, “Don’t try, you’ll only fail, you don’t have enough. YOU aren’t enough.”

You are. I am. I don’t care if the idea requires that you have a million dollars to pull it off-- start the plan. Begin the work of it.

It’s not your job to know HOW the money, or the people, or the facilities will appear. Act as if you have all that you need RIGHT NOW and accept no other thought.
NO OTHER THOUGHT. No plan B. No fall-back position.

This is not at all easy-- it is the challenge of a lifetime, to believe in the invisible and trust that you'll be delivered from fear, poverty and hunger. And believe me, there will be other thoughts.

The enemies of art WILL try to stop you-- but that enemy is INSIDE you. Those enemies are called depression, anger, inertia, fear, self-loathing. . . the names change to confuse you, but you who it is.
When I'm really on a roll and getting work done, I feel like I'm being pursued by the four horsemen of the ARTpocalypse. Got to keep going. . .

Every time I pick up a pen to write, the phantom rises to stop me. It's a battle DAILY to keep going. But as hokey as it seems, when I look at pictures of J.K. Rowling-- there's this one specific image I'm going to find and post here-- I can SEE not a rich lady, but a woman who was THERE, writing herself out of the darkness-- what she must have gone through to get that story out of her. Maybe she heard a voice in her head say,"Get a real job." "This isn't going to save you, this story. You need to do something REAL."

Imagine if she had listened. Imagine if she had left that story for someone else to do. It might not have been written at all.

Do it now, Adriana. Whatever it is. This is a message for ME TOO.

Begin the dream, yank it from the ethers into this silly world. It's good to release and move on, and support others, surely. But don't be content with being just happy for someone else. I know I've done that-- but in the end the satisfaction of a job well done was not my own.

Seize your ART. Knight yourself, and ride into battle, baby! Be your own champion! Wear your own colors! You'll get the girl, in the end. The girl is YOU.

You have all it takes, woman. You've always had it.
